About us

The Association of Creators and Patrons of Culture and Science "Angelus Silesius" was established in 1997 on the initiative of the Polish poet and multimedia artist Lech Majewski, who was inspired by the 17th-century Silesian mystic and philosopher Angelus Silesius. In the course of its nearly thirty years of activity, the association has helped to realise a number of concerts and classical music CDs (e.g. by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Józef Skrzek), make films (e.g. "Scrap" by Radosław Markiewicz and "The Mill and the Cross" by Lech Majewski), publish more than 20 books and albums on art (e.g. "Mystical Journeys" by Andrzej Hermanowicz, "Laughter in the Dark" by Ireneusz Siwiński) and co-organise numerous art exhibitions, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. "Mystical Journeys" by Andrzej Hermanowicz, "Laughter in the Dark" by Ireneusz Siwiński) as well as co-organising numerous art exhibitions, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and taking part in Eventi collaterali of the 52nd Venice Biennale ("Blood of a Poet" by Lech Majewski at the Teatro Junghaus and at Campo San Pantalone) and Eventi collaterali of the 54th Biennale di Venezia ("Bruegel suite" at the Chiesa di San Lio).

The Angelus Silesius Association brings together all people of good will who wish to participate in the promotion of Silesian culture, art and science at home and abroad. The Association's objective is to organise artistic and scientific events which will serve to stimulate cultural and intellectual life in Silesia, as well as in the whole country, and to promote the most outstanding artistic events of Silesia and the country outside Poland. The activity of "Angelus Silesius" is to promote culture, art and science, including the organisation of related events. The Association strives to achieve its goal, among other things, by: using all available media for the promotion of artistic and scientific events, i.e.: through printing activities, music publications, theatre productions, cinema screenings, exhibitions, concerts, meetings, etc. We are currently focusing on raising funds to participate in the Eventi collaterali of next year's Biennale. We also plan to continue our further activities in the fields of culture and science.

The authorities of the Association are: General Meeting of Members of the Association, Board of Directors, Audit Committee. The Ordinary General Meeting of the Association's members is convened by the Board by 30 June each year. The General Meeting elects the President and other members of the Board of Management, members of the Audit Committee, and conducts supplementary elections to the Board of the Association. The term of office of the Board lasts 4 years. The President of the Board represents the Association single-handedly to the outside world.
